Rumors swirled Wednesday morning that the upcoming James Bond game 007 First Light could be indefinitely delayed on Nintendo Switch 2. Either in response to those rumors or as a coincidence, developer and publisher IO Interactive posted on X that the game was on track for its May 27 release date on PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X, but would come to Switch 2 "later this summer."
The Switch 2 delay comes after the game 007 First Light was already delayed for all platforms. Originally slated for a release on March 27, James Bond's next adventure was delayed in December 2025. "This decision allows us to ensure the experience meets the level of quality you players deserve on day one," IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak said at the time.
Polygon has reached out to IO Interactive for comment on the Switch 2 delay.
This isn't the first AAA release to have its Switch 2 version delayed. Borderlands 4 received an indefinite delay on Switch 2 after releasing last fall on the other platforms. And then there's the case of Elden Ring on Switch 2, which was announced alongside the console. It had a worrisome Gamescom demo in 2025 and was ultimately delayed, though a preview at GDC last month showed the port is alive and well.
Not every third-party game for Switch 2 gets hit with delays, however. Cronos: The New Dawn launched day and date on Switch 2. Same for Resident Evil Requiem and the upcoming Pragmata. Those latter two were both developed and published by Capcom. Perhaps it has the secret sauce in getting its games on Switch 2?
For now, all Switch 2 players know is that they'll have to wait a little bit longer to experience the James Bond origin story. When it does launch, players will encounter new versions of familiar faces, like M and Q, and original characters, like the villain played by Lenny Kravitz.
