A man was in critical condition Thursday afternoon after being stabbed in Montreal’s Côte-des-Neiges district, Montreal police said.
The incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. at Queen Mary Rd. and Trans Island Ave., according to Jean-Pierre Brabant, a spokesperson for the Montreal police.
According to Brabant, officers arriving at the scene found a 40-year-old man suffering from at least one stab wound to the upper body. The man was then transported to a nearby hospital, and was conscious during transport. Authorities were awaiting an update on his condition later Thursday.
Preliminary information suggests the victim had been involved in an altercation with another man shortly before the stabbing, Brabant said.
During the confrontation, the suspect allegedly stabbed the victim at least once, according to Brabant.
So far, no arrests had been made as of Thursday afternoon.
A security perimeter has been established around the scene while investigators worked to determine the circumstances leading up to the attack.
Brabant said they would be meeting with witnesses and reviewing surveillance camera footage from the area as part of the investigation.
