A car was set alight in Montreal’s Rivière-des-Prairies—Pointe-aux-Trembles borough early Sunday in a suspected arson attack.
Firefighters notified the police about a fire on Thomas-Paine St. near Olivier-Lejeune Ave. around 3:55 a.m., Montreal police spokesperson Johany Charland said.
According to police reports, “more than one suspect was seen approaching the vehicle, a window was reportedly broken and the fire started in front of the passenger compartment,” Charland said. “The suspects fled the scene before the police arrived.”
Firefighters brought the fire under control, she said. The incident resulted in no injuries, although the vehicle was significantly damaged.
The Montreal police arson unit is investigating. Police have made no arrests.
