The Edmonton Oilers‘ forward group continues to get thinner.
Trent Frederic will be sidelined with an undisclosed injury, head coach Kris Knoblauch announced after practice on Friday, before adding that he doesn’t have a timeline for a return from the injury.
Frederic joins Leon Draisaitl, Colton Dach, Mattias Janmark and Curtis Lazar as forwards who have been hurt over the past month.
The 28-year-old Frederic appeared to get hurt near the end of the second period of Thursday’s loss to Florida while forechecking.
Frederic has struggled in Edmonton since being acquired prior to the trade deadline last season, notching a combined five goals in 90 regular season and post-season games.
The six-foot-three, 221-pound forward inked an eight-year, $30.8-million extension with the club prior to the 2025 campaign. He has just four goals and two assists while averaging 10:45 of ice time in 67 games this season.
Over his career, Frederic totalled 115 points (59 goals, 56 assists) in 405 games, with an additional four goals and five assists in 44 playoff games.
